History of The Hobbie Shop. Owner Richard Wells was Born in Mt. Sterling Ky. Graduated Montgomery County high school and then attended Rowan County Vo-Tech school, majoring in machinest and welding. He started welding and building street rods at the age of 14. His first vehicle was a 78 chevy 4x4 that he later, at age 17 built it into a 4 wheel drive el camino. Clearly, this was a sign of times to come. Later Richard got certified in mig and tig welding and has a degree in machining. In April of 1994 Richard started his business of building drag car chassis and street rods. During that time he built numerous chassis and performance suspensions and became a certified NHRA chassis builder. In 2002 Richard switched from race chassis to rock crawler and brought with him all those years of chassic building and his personal love of off road vehicle. during the last 8 years of building rockcrawlers he has built everything from trail rigs to full all out competition rigs. The hobbie shop buggies have been in several magazines and even on the cover of 4 wheel and off road magazine. |
